Founders Legacy Society

Ensuring Maryland's Long-Term Success

BioScience ColumnsOverview

The Founders Legacy Society honors those who generously support the university through their estate or financial plans, or other planned gift arrangements. These forward-thinking donors demonstrate their steadfast commitment to future generations at Maryland and help to ensure the university continues to be a world-class institution for teaching, research and public service.

Eligibility

Donors who notify the university of a planned gift to benefit Maryland, regardless of amount, are recognized by the Founders Legacy Society. Examples of planned gifts include:

  • Bequest in a will or living trust
  • Charitable life-income plan such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust
  • Designation of UMD as beneficiary of a retirement-plan asset, life insurance policy or bank/brokerage account
  • Real estate, personal tangible property or other assets

Planned gifts may be designated for a specific purpose, such as a scholarship, faculty chair or campus program. Conversely, gifts may be designated as unrestricted to help the university address needs that cannot be foreseen today. If you prefer your gift to remain anonymous, we will gladly honor your request.

Oftentimes, legacy gifts allow donors to make a greater impact than may be possible during their lifetimes. The Office of Gift Planning welcomes the opportunity to speak with you to create a gift plan that helps you meet your philanthropic and financial goals.
